Take Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi) for an example, it can be basically divided into 2 parts: Fruiting body and Mycelium.
Fruiting body is the whole part of mushroom that grow above the ground, while mycelium is of a mass of branching, thread-like hyphae grow under the ground. Reishi spore are the tiny seeds released from the reishi when the reishi mushroom matures. Fruiting body, mycelium and spores have different nutritive values.
Only the fruiting body of fully mature reishi contains all of the phytonutrients such as ganoderic acids (a type of triterpenoids), beta-glucans, and amino acids that make it effective.
